Bronze Sculpture Tour
Four world-renowned artists who hail from Holdrege have created nearly a dozen bronze sculptures that are prominently displayed throughout Holdrege.
The sculpture that started it all is George Lundeen’s Promise of the Prairie that stands tall in Holdrege’s North Park. It was donated in honor of Holdrege’s 100th anniversary in 1983. George and his brother, Mark, now reside in Loveland, Colo., and have crafted hundreds of sculptures that are featured around the country, including many outside of Sheel’s stores and the new Cloisters on the Platte life-sized Stations of the Cross near Ashland, Nebraska.
The most recent bronze sculpture, The Spirit Within, was crafted by Holdrege artist Mike Sughroue and is also displayed near the flag pole at the North Park.
The fourth artist is Brad Pearson, who has sculptures at the Holdege Middle School and at the Holdrege Country Club.
A map of where to find all 11 sculptures can be downloaded from the Visit 37 website at www.visit37.com/attractions
Hansen Art Gallery
In late 2019, Bertrand artist Jeremy Hansen opened an art gallery to display his work in downtown Bertrand. The gallery was previously the home of the Bertrand Herald newspaper offices and still features some remnants of the newspaper world, including antique printing equipment.
Jeremy has worked as a professional artist since 2000 and attends major art shows annually in Chicago, Denver, Miami, Houston, San Diego and Dallas. He describes his artistic style as mostly abstract expressionism.

The Crystal Leaf
The Cystal Leaf in downtown Holdrege is a “healing store” that sells loose-leaf teas, essential oils, crystals and incense. It is located inside the historic former Opera House entrance in downtown Holdrege and also features the work of local artists and photographers.
Owner Ashley Brock, who is also a school music teacher and offers music lessons at her downtown studio, said she wanted the store to be a place for local artists to showcase their work. From rural photography to unique artwork by area artists and students, visitors will be amazed at the talented pieces displayed. Different artists are featured each month, so visitors are encouraged to stop by often to see the latest work.
For store hours and more information, visit her Facebook page Crystal Leaf Tea.
