October is almost here, and that means…
The Nebraska Prairie Museum at Holdrege, Nebraska is gearing up for the 2020 Nebraska State Hand Corn Husking & Fall Festival to be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020. The festival is FREE and open to the public. There is a small fee to participate in the State Corn Husking competition.
Entries for the State Corn Husking will start at 8:00 a.m. with the National Anthem kicking off the competition at 9:00 a.m. Anyone wanting to compete in the Hand Corn Husking competition is welcome to come give it a try! All ages are welcome. You can find the registration forms and a schedule of events online at the Holdrege Chamber of Commerce website.
The many living history demonstrators will be set-up and open for business at 9:00 a.m. too. Over 30 demonstrators have signed up, and will be located both both inside and outside the main museum. Some of the displays include: goats, chickens, 2-man saw, blacksmith, pottery, quilting, weaving, mountain men, and knitting to name just a few. Food trucks will also be on-site to satisfy hungry patrons.
Nebraska State Hand Corn Husking Competition
Parking at the Museum is limited, but don’t worry, a free shuttle will run regularly between the Museum and the Tassel Parking lot located one-half mile east of the Holdrege Country Club on 18th Avenue.
Due to health concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, please follow current CDC and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services guidelines. The Phelps County Historical Society and the Nebraska Prairie Museum sincerely encourages each person to make their decision whether to attend the 2020 Nebraska State Corn Husking & Fall Festival based on the best interest of your health and that of your community. Masks are encouraged, and will be available.
The Nebraska Prairie Museum is located at 2701 Burlington Street at Holdrege, Nebraska – just a half mile north of Holdrege on Highway 183.
